Recipe FAQ

Can I make this dish vegetarian?

Yes, substitute the chicken with extra firm tofu or tempeh. Press the tofu for 20 minutes, then marinate and cook the same way as the chicken.

How spicy is the peanut sauce?

The sauce has mild to medium heat with 1 tablespoon sriracha. Adjust the spice level by adding more or less sriracha to your preference.

Can I prepare components ahead?

The coconut rice, peanut sauce, and chopped vegetables can be made up to 2 days in advance. Store separately in airtight containers and reheat rice before assembling.

What protein alternatives work well?

Shrimp, beef strips, or roasted chickpeas make excellent substitutes. Adjust cooking times accordingly—shrimp cooks in 3–4 minutes, while chickpeas need 15–20 minutes to crisp.

Is the peanut sauce gluten-free?

The sauce is naturally gluten-free if you use tamari instead of soy sauce and verify your sriracha brand is gluten-free.

How should I store leftovers?

Store components separately in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Keep the peanut sauce in a jar—shake well before serving as it may thicken when cold.
